  • United Utilities to increase water bills by 32%

    Household water bills for millions of United Utilities (UU) customers will rise by 32% over the next five years, the company has announced. 


    The water company, which supplies Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Cumbria, most of Cheshire and parts of Derbyshire, said the increase had been negotiated in December with the regulator Ofwat as part of its price review.

    Lloyds Banking Group is to shut another 136 branches by March next year, citing reduced customer usage.

    South port killer Axel Rudakubana has pleaded guilty to the murders of the three children he attacked. Alice da Silva Aguiar, Bebe King and Elsie Dot Stancombe were stabbed to death at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class on 29 July 2024.


    He also pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of eight other children and to the attempted murder of Leanne Lucas and Jonathan Hayes.

  • Car driven into crowd in New Orleans

    A car has been deliberately driven into a crowd of people in the French Quarter in New Orleans, killing at least 10 and injuring over 30 more. The incident occurred at approximately 03:15 local time.
